Description
This is a finger signpost located in Gerrans, dating from the early 20th century. It is made of cast iron and features a slender tapered post with incised barley sugar moulding, ring-moulding halfway up, necking, coving, and a ball-finial at the top. The signpost has three arms with pointing fingers at the ends, each inscribed with names: Portscatha, Tregoney and St Austell, and Portcuil and St Anthony, which are old spellings of Portscatha, Tregoney, and Portcuil. This signpost is a notable early example of a county council road signpost with pointing fingers on the arms.
