Description
Riverside is a small house dating from around the 17th and 18th centuries, with a later 19th-century extension to the rear. It is constructed of painted slatestone rubble and cob walls, with a dry slate roof which was likely originally thatched. A large external stone stack is located at the gable end on the right-hand side. The house originally comprised two rooms, with a small outshut added to the rear on the left.
The east-facing front, overlooking the Percueil River, has an irregular three-window arrangement. Battered stone buttressing is visible on the ground floor, except to the far left and below the second window, which may conceal evidence of a further opening to the right. The present off-centre doorway has a 20th-century boarded door, with wooden lintels above. A 16-pane, centre-hung, two-light sash window, dating from the early 19th century, is centrally positioned on the first floor. The remaining windows are mostly 16-pane sashes, some with horns. Dove holes are visible under the eaves to the right. The roof pitch has been reduced.
The rear of the house has a blocked first-floor opening, possibly originally intended to light stairs. Inside, the layout is simple, featuring open beams and one large fireplace opening. Some modernization has occurred, and the building has undergone minor alterations. It stands in an unspoiled section of the Percueil River valley.
