Description

The barn and piggery adjoining Penvith Farmhouse on the east are a Grade II listed structure. The barn dates from the late 18th century, while the piggery was added in the mid-19th century. Both are constructed of stone rubble. The barn features a slate roof with half-hipped ends and is positioned next to the farmhouse, projecting from the angle of the stair projection and the lower end of the hall, forming the north side of the farmyard.

It has a symmetrical two-storey front with two window openings on the first floor and a line of pigeon holes below the eaves. The rear elevation includes a window opening on the ground floor and a door with a concrete lintel to the right, with a casement window above. There is an entrance to the first floor located in the half-hipped end, accessed by timber steps. The piggery extends along the north side of the farmyard, attached to the barn. It has a high stone rubble wall at the rear and a steeply pitched rag slate lean-to roof, with three blocked openings in the front elevation. This structure is included for its group value with the farmhouse, as it is an integral part of the farmstead.
