Description

House, built in 1905. It is a vernacular revival style building with a whitewashed, rendered exterior and a slate gabled roof. The house has a rectangular plan, with an outshut at the rear. It is two storeys and has an attic. The left side features a three-window range with a large, lateral stack with set-offs rising from the gable on the right. A porch and bay window are located to the right of the stack, covered by a slated pent roof. The front door, fitted with strap hinges ending in tulip finials, a Suffolk latch with a grasp handle, and a heart-shaped bracket, is on the left. The remaining windows have segmental-headed openings with segmentally arched hoodmoulds, and feature three-light casements with small panes. The right return has a wide gable end and a large stack off-centre, with two small fire window slits at the base. Similar segmentally arched window openings are present on this return with casements. The left return has a gable end facing the sea, sloping down over the rear outshut. Some ground floor windows are missing glazing bars. Rooms on the ground floor, located to the left and centre of the house, have ceiling beams and elaborately panelled doors, with door frame jambs terminating in Mackintosh-influenced projecting moulded finials. One ground floor room on the left features a slate fireplace with a granite lintel. The ground floor room to the right and first-floor rooms have Ludlow-moulded cornices. First-floor fireplaces are blocked. The attic’s servant bedrooms contain a variety of small fireplaces with art nouveau decoration.
