Description

The gate piers and gates located approximately 200 meters north of Godolphin House date from the 19th century and incorporate earlier materials. The piers are made from re-used 16th or 17th century monolithic chamfered granite door jambs featuring diagonal stops. They are topped with moulded granite caps from the mid-17th century, which were originally part of a central forecourt gate situated between previous lodges closer to the house. The gates themselves are 19th century wrought iron, with bars that are spaced and adorned with arrow-head finials, positioned below a scroll-braced lock rail and ramped top rails.
