Description

The Old Rectory is a rectory that has been converted into a private house, dating from around 1725, with extensions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed killas stone and features a Delabole slate roof that was replaced in 1987, although the earlier roof remains on the extension. The layout consists of two rooms with a central through hall, and there is a lean-to (linhay) at the rear that contains a dog-leg staircase. The left section of the building was removed to accommodate an early 19th-century drawing room wing. To the right gable, there is a single-bay outbuilding that was originally thatched and later raised to two storeys in the 19th century, with the ground floor now serving as a kitchen. The house is two storeys high and has a central four-panelled door set within a trellis porch. It features five window bays, with paired 12-paned sash windows in the parlour to the left of the hall and single 12-paned sashes elsewhere. The kitchen has a 25-paned sash window, and all windows have timber lintels. Inside, the right wall of the hall has been removed to create a living-hall, and the gable fireplace has been blocked. There is a well-crafted dog-leg staircase with turned balusters. The rear drawing room includes a carved end gable fireplace and a moulded plaster cornice.
