Description
North Cliff is a house dating from the mid to late 19th century, built on the site of a former carpenters' yard. The exterior is painted weatherboarding and slatehanging, topped with a slate roof featuring hipped ends and brick end stacks. The house is built into the hillside, creating a three-story elevation facing the harbour and a two-story elevation on Roscarrock Hill, where the ground is higher.
The harbour-facing front has three windows. The ground floor has two-bay windows with 20th-century glazing. Above, a first-floor verandah features 20th-century fenestration within altered window openings. The second floor has three unusual 19th-century timber casement windows, each with two lights and pointed arch heads, with similar fenestration in the left-hand side wall. The Roscarrock Hill elevation is two stories high and features quoin strips, a 20th-century door within a 19th-century doorcase. A further rendered and painted stone rubble range forms the right-hand gable end, with a slate roof, gable ends, and a mix of 19th and 20th-century windows. The interior has not been inspected. The house enjoys a prominent position on the south side of the harbour.
