Description

The White House is a house dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, with a slate roof having gable ends, the right-hand side being cement-washed. A brick chimney stack is located on the right-hand gable end. The original plan likely comprised either a two-room house with a cross passage, with an entrance to the right of centre and a larger room to the left, or alternatively two one-room cottages with entrances near the centre, now combined into a single residence. The building has an asymmetrical three-window front and 20th-century window replacements. The ground floor features a 20th-century window to the left, a timber trellis-work porch forming a covered seat, and two further 20th-century windows to the right, flanking a glazed 20th-century front door with a matching trellis-work porch. The first floor has three 20th-century half-dormer windows set within raking roofs. The interior is not accessible. The house occupies a prominent position on the south side of the harbour.
