Description
New Liston and Tregantle are two houses located at the end of a row on Barn Street in Liskeard, built in the mid to late 19th century. They feature incised stucco on masonry and have a hipped concrete tile roof with projecting eaves over a modillion cornice. A 20th-century axial brick stack and a cast-iron ogee gutter are also present. The houses have a double-depth plan, with No. 1 on the left containing two rooms at the front, while No. 2 has one room at the front.
Both houses are two storeys tall and present an overall symmetrical five-window range. They retain original four-pane hornless sash windows. No. 1 has a nearly symmetrical three-window range with a doorway slightly left of centre. Both houses feature similar round-headed pilastered doorways with moulded and carved keyblocks, consoles, and an entablature over a moulded cornice that is linked to a mid-floor string. The doors are six-panel with raised-and-fielded panels and plain fanlights. The ground-floor windows have elliptical heads and are set within moulded architraves and sills supported by brackets. The interiors have not been inspected but are likely to be of interest.
