Description

Picklecombe Cottage is a house, likely originally a pair, dating to approximately 1820 to 1840. It is constructed of wood and has a shingle exterior, with a concrete tiled hipped roof. The building was originally two semi-detached cottages with a two-room plan for each. Each cottage features a central two-storey block containing the principal room, flanked by single-storey wings with side entrance porches. It has since been converted into a single residence, with the left-hand doorway now blocked.

The front of the house has two windows on each floor, all with round-headed windows featuring moulded arches, imposts, and cills; these windows are modern PVC replacements. The wings each have a hipped roof and a two-light window with a round arch, imposts, and plain Doric columns between the lights, with consoles to the cills. The right side has a single round-headed window and a small gabled porch with a round-arched doorway. The left side features a blocked segmental-headed doorway with a twentieth-century window inserted. A twentieth-century lean-to has been added to the rear. The interior has not been inspected.

The cottage was once part of the Mount Edgcumbe estate and served as an ornamental feature along the estate's drive.
