Description
Cutcrew Cottage is a pair of attached houses with an attached stable, now functioning as a single house with a café. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some later alterations. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble, with some areas slate-hung, and features a slate roof that is partly slurried, complete with gable ends and gable end stacks.
The layout includes a cottage on the left with a two-room plan and a rear outshut for service rooms. The central cottage has a one-room plan and a lower roof level, while the integral stable with a loft is located at the right end. The first cottage on the left has two storeys and an upper storey that is slate-hung, presenting a symmetrical two-window range. The first floor features a 20th-century window and a two-light casement with lead hinges. The ground floor has three openings with segmental heads, all fitted with two-light 20th-century casements, with the central opening previously serving as a door.
The second cottage on the right has a 20th-century door with a timber lintel, along with a 20th-century casement and door, both also with timber lintels. There are two 20th-century casements on the first floor. A straight joint connects to the stable on the right, which has a central door and an upper loading door, along with a window opening featuring a brick segmental head to the left and a small single light with a granite lintel to the right. A dovecot was in the process of being built on the roof at the time of the survey in August 1986. The left side of the building has a single rubble lean-to that is roofless. The rear and interior of the building were not inspected.
