Description
The buildings at 72 and 74 West Street, Penryn, are a farmhouse, later adapted into a house and cottage forming part of a row. They date to the 17th century. Number 72 is constructed of granite and killas rubble, rendered over, while number 74 (on the left) has dry slate roofing, and number 72 has asbestos slate. The stacks are of rendered rubble, with a rear lateral stack, and a cast-iron ogee gutter. Originally, the buildings likely had a three-window range. The windows are largely 20th-century six-pane horned sashes, apart from a late 19th-century sash window on the first floor of number 74. Number 74 has a 20th-century partly glazed door, and number 72 has a late 19th-century four-panel door with a later glazed top section. The exterior features a stucco or rendered plinth, string course, and surrounds to the openings. During an inspection around 1980, the interior of number 74 retained a chamfered oak end to the lateral fireplace lintel, with the lintel being mostly located within number 72.
