Description

Parkventon is a small country house built in the early 19th century. The garden front features incised stucco, while the other sides are constructed from Elvan rubble with snecks and granite dressings, including a granite ashlar plinth. The roof is made of scantle slate and has a hipped shape with projecting eaves, along with stuccoed stacks and cast-iron ogee gutters. The house has a square double-depth plan with a later extension on the right side. It stands two storeys high over a basement and has a nearly symmetrical entrance front with three windows. The original windows are 12-pane hornless sashes, except for a late 19th-century pilastered canted bay window with a moulded cornice on the right. The central doorway features an original six-panel door and an overlight with margin panes, framed by a distyle Doric porch. The other elevations retain original windows, except for the left-hand return, which has a late 19th-century bay window on the left and a central half-domed niche. The symmetrical garden front has a large late 19th-century conservatory with overlapping panes attached to the original structure. Inside, the house retains many original features, including an open-well open-string staircase with a wreathed newel, panelled doors and shutters, moulded plaster ceiling cornices, one marble chimneypiece, and a large fireplace in the kitchen.
