Description
The engine house at Charlotte United, built around 1859, served as a pumping beam engine house for a copper mine. It features walls made of killas rubble and is currently roofless. The structure has a rectangular plan, with only the front (bob) wall and the right-hand wall still standing. In front of the engine house, opposite the shaft, are a pair of parallel walls that once supported a balance bob. The exterior of the bob wall includes a round-arched plug doorway and a small opening below it. The taller wall has a doorway on the left and two small openings, all of which are spanned by timber lintels. This engine house is an important landmark in an unspoiled coastal valley.
