Description

The engine house at Great Charlotte is a pumping beam engine house built in the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from granite and killas rubble, featuring granite dressings. The structure retains only the thick bob wall from its original rectangular shape. The sole opening is a central round-arched plug doorway, which is adorned with granite voussoirs and a projecting keystone. This building serves as an important landmark in an unspoiled coastal valley and is situated on a cliff top overlooking the pristine Chapel Porth cove.
