Description
Briar Cottages is a house with flanking cottages, built around the mid-19th century. The structure features walls made of killas rubble and has brick arches over the openings. It has dry slate roofs with gable ends and brick axial stacks over two of the cross walls.
The layout suggests a possible double-depth plan, although the rear was not inspected. The original building consists of a central house with two rooms at the front, flanking a central entrance hall, alongside a similar pair of cottages, each with one room at the front and an entrance lobby to one side. There is a 20th-century addition on the left.
The exterior is two storeys high with an overall six-window front. The house in the middle has a symmetrical three-window front with a central doorway, while the flanking cottages each have two-window fronts with a doorway under one of their windows. The openings are spanned by shallow brick arches. The cottage on the left features an old, possibly original, four-panel door, while the other doors are from the 20th century. The house and the left cottage have original 16-pane hornless sash windows, while the cottage on the right has later four-pane horned sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
