Description

Mingooose Farmhouse is a building with parts dating from the 17th century, a front built in the 18th century, and extensions from the 19th century. The front is of granite ashlar, while the rest of the building is of killas rubble with some brick arches over openings. The roofs are of dry Delabole slate, and brick chimneys rise from the gable ends.

The house has an irregular double-depth plan. The 18th-century front range has two large rooms flanking a central entrance hall, which leads to a 19th-century stair hall. To the right of the stair hall is a slightly larger wing, with a former pantry outshut behind. A large kitchen occupies the remains of an earlier parallel range behind the left-hand room, and a 19th-century back kitchen is set at right angles behind the stair hall. A thick gable end wall in the rear right-hand corner is likely a remnant of a still earlier parallel range that predates the 18th-century front. A 19th-century lean-to porch is situated in the angle between the kitchen.

The south front is symmetrical, with five windows and a central round-headed doorway. A one-window front of a later wing is set back slightly to the right. A brick arch is above the doorway, which has a 20th-century door with a plain fanlight. Some original or circa early 19th-century 12-pane hornless sashes, with some crown glass, are present, along with some horned copies. Circa early 19th-century 16-pane sashes are in the front wing. The other elevations have remained virtually unaltered since the 19th century.

The interior is reported to retain some (probably 18th-century) plaster ceiling cornices and chimney-pieces.
