Description

ST GERMANS CHURCH STREET, (north side), SX 35 NE St Germans 7/91 Lychgate and attached railings about 30 metres south of Church of St Germanus

GV II

Lychgate and attached railings. Mid C19. Greenstone coursed rubble with limestone dressings; slate roof. Railings in cast iron. The railings run south east from the lychgate and form the boundary to the churchyard along Church Street. The lychgate has buttresses, 4-centred arched gateway to east and west with hood mould. On the west side, there are 3 blind lancets in the gable, which has raised coped verges and finial. 3 cusped lancets to south. Wrought iron gates across the west entrance. Interior: Stone benches with granite seats to sides. Common rafter roof. Railings attached to lychgate, extend for about 50 metres. Fluted stanchions with urn finials, mid and top rails with trefoil finials.
