Description

The lychgate and attached railings, located about 30 metres south of the Church of St Germanus, date from the mid-19th century. They are constructed of greenstone coursed rubble with limestone dressings and feature a slate roof. The railings, made of cast iron, extend southeast from the lychgate, forming the boundary of the churchyard along Church Street.

The lychgate includes buttresses and has a 4-centred arched gateway on both the east and west sides, each with a hood mould. On the west side, there are three blind lancets in the gable, which has raised coped verges and a finial. The south side features three cusped lancets, and there are wrought iron gates at the west entrance.

Inside, there are stone benches with granite seats along the sides and a common rafter roof. The railings attached to the lychgate extend for about 50 metres and are supported by fluted stanchions with urn finials, along with mid and top rails that have trefoil finials.
