Description
West Rosedown Cottage is a house that was originally part of the West Rosedown Mine, built in the mid-19th century, possibly incorporating earlier structures, and has seen few alterations since. The cottage is constructed of rendered stone rubble and partly features slate hanging. It has a slurried slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, along with gable end stacks.
The plan consists of two rooms with a central entrance, and each room is heated by a gable end stack. Upon entering, there is a stair hall. There is a single-storey lean-to addition on the left side that dates from the later 19th century.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical two-window front. All windows are 16-pane sashes from the 19th century, and the ground floor has quoins on the sides. The front is painted, and there is a central 20th-century gabled porch with a door to the side. The left side has a single-storey lean-to with a 20th-century window at the front and side. The right side is slate-hung and features an external weathered stack, while the left side is rendered.
At the rear, the cottage is slate-hung and has a 16-pane sash window on the first floor to the right and left, with a smaller 12-pane sash in the centre that lights the stair. On the ground floor to the left, there is a four-pane sash window, and to the right, there is a single-storey 20th-century addition. The interior has not been inspected.
