Description
The engine house at South Polgooth Tin Mine is a late 19th-century structure featuring an attached chimney. It is built from stone rubble with granite quoins and has a brick chimney. The engine house has a rectangular plan, with the bob wall located to the north and the chimney attached to the southeast corner.
The building is three stories high, and the gable end on the south side includes a circular chimney that has a brick cornice and tapers towards the top. The lower part of the chimney is constructed from stone rubble, likely rebuilt in brick at the upper level. The bob wall of the engine house contains a rectangular opening with a doorway at ground floor level. There is also a doorway with a granite lintel in the west wall at ground floor, and each level of the south gable end features a window.
