Description
Hewas Inn is an inn that dates from the early to mid-19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features an asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles, gable ends on the front range, and a hipped roof over the front wing. The building has an overall L-plan, consisting of a main range and a wing that projects to the front right. The main range has a three-room plan, which is currently all one room on the ground floor, while the attached wing, likely added in the late 19th century, has a one-room plan and is heated by a stack on its right side. There is also a long single-storey range of outhouses attached to the left end of the building.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical two-window front. On the first floor, there are two late 19th-century margin-glazed sash windows. The ground floor has a central 20th-century half-glazed door, flanked by similar sashes on either side. To the far right, there is another 20th-century half-glazed door. At ground floor level, there is a 20th-century glazed conservatory attached to the front. The right front wing is two storeys tall with a canted front, featuring a 20th-century 12-pane sash window with a cambered brick arch on the ground floor and a 19th-century 8-pane sash window on the first floor. The right side of the building has a four-pane window with a timber lintel on the ground floor and a 19th-century four-pane sash window on the first floor. Attached to the left end is the single-storey outhouse, which has two 20th-century doors and three 20th-century windows. The interior has not been inspected.
