Description
Lower Chellow Farmhouse, along with its front garden walls, gate piers, and gate, dates from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of dressed coursed granite with granite dressings at the front, while the rest is made of rubble. It features slurried scantle slate roofs and brick chimneys at the gable ends. The farmhouse has a shallow double-depth plan with two rooms at the front: a larger room, likely the kitchen, on the right and a parlour on the left, connected by a cross passage that leads to the stairs and shallow rear service rooms. At the back of the left side, there is a single-storey back kitchen or wash house built at right angles, and on the right side, there is a lean-to pantry.
The exterior is two storeys high and nearly symmetrical, with a three-window south front and a doorway slightly left of the center. The entrance features a 19th-century four-panel door and a glazed porch from the early 20th century in front of it. The first floor has original 16-pane hornless sash windows, while the ground floor has late 19th-century four-pane horned sashes. The interior has not been inspected. The front garden wall is a regularly coursed rubble and earth 'Cornish hedge' with roughly-hewn granite monolithic gate piers and a 19th-century wrought iron gate with twisted bars.
