Description

Two town houses, at numbers 5 and 7 Pike Street, were built in the mid-19th century. They are now shops. The front is stuccoed, with decorative quoins, and has an asbestos slate roof with a moulded cornice to the projecting eaves. Brick stacks and cast iron ogee gutters are also present. The houses have a double-depth plan over three storeys and feature a 3:1 window arrangement. The second floor has original nine-pane hornless sash windows within moulded architraves, set above a mid-floor band. Later four-pane hornless sashes, some with horns, are on the first floor of number 7, and a similar horned sash is in number 5, all within stucco surrounds with pilasters to number 7. The building has an entablature with moulded and dentilled cornice hoods, a moulded sill string, and sill brackets to both floors. Number 7 has a 20th-century shop front, while number 5 has a late 19th-century shop front with plate-glass lights. The interior was not inspected. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
