Description

This is a group of five headstones located 1 to 4 metres northeast of the chancel of the Church of St Winwalo in Tremaine. The headstones date from 1773 to 1805.

The first headstone commemorates Richard, son of Samuel and Elizabeth Joliffe, who died in 1801, and is made of slate with a rectangular shape. The second headstone is for Samuel Joliffe, a yeoman who died in 1804, featuring a slate design with canted corners. The third headstone honors John Joliffe, who passed away in 1773, and is also a rectangular slate headstone. The fourth headstone is dedicated to John Spettigue, who died in 1802, and resembles the headstone of John Joliffe. The final headstone is for John Janes of Treswine in Warbstow, who died in 1805, and is similar in design to those of John Joliffe and John Spettigue. All five headstones are inscribed with upper and lower case lettering that includes serifs.
