Description

Treburtle Farmhouse is a farmhouse located on the west side of the settlement at Treburtle. It likely dates from the 17th century and was extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed from rendered and painted stone rubble and cob, topped with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends. There are brick chimneys on axial stacks to the right and left of the center, which were probably originally end stacks incorporated into later extensions.

The layout of the farmhouse is likely a two-room plan with a cross or through passage, with the ground sloping down to the right. The larger hall-kitchen is situated on the left, while the parlour is on the right, both heated by the end stacks. In the 18th century, the house was extended with an additional room on the lower right side, and later in the 18th century, a further range with a one-room and passage plan was added to the higher left side. A kitchen was added to the rear of the earlier hall-kitchen in the 19th century.

The exterior of the farmhouse is two-storeys high with an asymmetrical window arrangement. The front features one window on the right and three windows on the left, all of which have been replaced with 20th-century windows in the earlier openings. A 20th-century door is located to the right of center, flanked by a 20th-century window on the lower right and two 20th-century windows to the left. The first floor has three 20th-century windows. The late 18th-century extension on the left has a 20th-century window and door on the ground floor, with a 20th-century window above.

Inside, many earlier features, including fireplaces, have been covered over in the 19th and 20th centuries. The ceilings are plastered, and the feet of the principal beams have been boxed in. The roof structure has not been inspected.
