Description
The gates and gatepiers at the north entrance to the churchyard in Padstow date from the early 19th century, with the gatepiers rebuilt in the mid 19th century. The gates are made of wrought iron and are supported by stone rubble piers topped with granite pyramid caps. The piers are large and squat, nearly square in shape. The main gate is attached to one pier, while the two narrower leaves are attached to the other. The design allows the gate to function as a kissing gate when closed, but it can also be fully opened. The gates likely originate from local craftsmanship and feature a central panel adorned with scroll patterns, with the upright stiles ending in spear-shaped finials.
