Description
The gates and gatepiers at the southeast entrance to the churchyard in Padstow date from the early 19th century, with the gatepiers rebuilt in the mid-19th century. They feature wrought iron gates set between stone rubble piers topped with granite pyramid caps. The piers are large and squat, almost square in shape, with the main gate attached to the south pier and two narrower leaves attached to the north pier. The gate is designed to function as a kissing gate when closed but can also be fully opened. The gates likely originate from local craftsmanship, showcasing a central panel adorned with scroll patterns and upright stiles that end in spear-shaped finials.
