Description

Two houses, likely dating from the 18th century, are located on Church Street in Padstow. They are built of rendered and painted stone rubble, with a timber frame visible above the ground floor, and have slate roofs with gable ends. A brick stack is located on the right-hand side.

The houses have a combined plan: the left-hand house (No. 20, The Gifford) has a two-room plan with a single depth and a central entrance. The right-hand house (No. 18) has a two-room plan with a double depth and an entrance on the right.

The exterior is two stories high, with a regular four-window front. The upper floors are clad in slate. No. 20 (The Gifford) presents an almost symmetrical three-window facade. It features an early 19th-century 16-pane sash window on the left and a likely shop window on the right, flanking the entrance. Two 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash windows on the first floor flank a central blind window. No. 18 to the right has a 20th-century window to the left and an entrance with a six-panel door to the right. A 16-pane horned sash window is located on the first floor.

The interior has not been inspected.
