Description
The Camborne Community Centre, originally the estate office for the Bassets of Tehidy, dates from the early to mid 19th century and has been altered over time. It is constructed from large blocks of granite ashlar and features a slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan with a short wing on the left side.
In a classical style, the structure is two storeys high and has four symmetrical bays, except for the wing. Notable architectural features include raised rusticated quoins, a plinth, a first-floor band, a moulded cornice, and prominent bracketed eaves. The ground floor showcases an arcade of four round-headed arches set in rusticated masonry, with stepped voussoirs and raised keystones above each arch. Each arch contains a recessed round-headed sashed window with radiating glazing bars, a raised sill, and a panelled apron. The first floor has 12-pane sashed windows with moulded architraves. The roof is hipped with chimneys on the side walls.
The left end features a one-bay wing that is two storeys tall, with 12-pane sashes and architraves; however, its left return wall has been altered and includes various additions. The rear of the building has two two-storey canted bays and a round-headed stair window with an eared architrave, but is otherwise obscured by unsympathetic additions. The interior has also been altered.
