Description
Lamburn Cottage is a small house, likely dating from the 18th century. It is constructed of painted rubble and cob walls with wooden lintels above the windows. The rear of the building displays a good texture of cob. The roof is thatched with wheat reed, sweeping down at the rear, and incorporates brick chimneys over a large, external rubble gable-end stack. The building follows a double-depth plan, including rear service rooms and likely integral service outshuts, which are deeper at the rear right. There are two rooms at the front, probably with a lobby entrance or through passage between them. The front facade is symmetrical, with two windows. The thatch also sweeps lower over a central, 20th-century porch outshut. The first-floor walls are incised with stucco. The windows are 20th-century replacements within 18th-century openings, consisting of 12-pane 2-light casements over 4-pane 2-light casements. There are lean-to projections, likely ovens, visible in front of the building to the far left and right. The interior has not been inspected.
