Description

The Vicarage, probably designed by Silvanus Trevail and erected in March 1887, is a substantial building constructed of rubble brought to course with granite quoins and brick dressings. The roofs are dry Delabole slate, with gable ends and brick stacks with entablatures. The building has an irregular double-depth plan arranged under a complex roofline, including two rooms at the front flanking an entrance hall, a reception room behind the right-hand room, a probable service room behind the left-hand room, and a service wing adjoining, set back on the left. It is two storeys high with an attic over part. The exterior remains substantially unaltered and retains its original doors and windows in their original openings. There are panelled doors with overlights, and hornless sash windows with glazing bars. The front elevation features a large gable end on the left and a smaller gable end slightly set back on the right. A porch, with an elliptically arched doorway, is integral with the large left-hand gable end, accompanied by a window on the left and two first floor windows, with a central gable window above. The smaller gable end has a two-light bay window to the ground floor and a window above. Principal window openings are spanned by segmental brick arches with granite keyblocks. The eaves have moulded brick cornices, oversailing brick courses also carried round to the gables to act as kneelers for the brick verges under the slates. The interior was not inspected.
