Description
Burnewhall Farm Cottage is a small house dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of painted granite rubble with granite dressings and features a grouted scantle slate roof with gable ends. A stump of a granite ashlar chimney is located over the right-hand gable end. The building has a simple rectangular plan with two rooms and a lobby entrance, with a staircase situated between the rooms.
The cottage is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical three-window east front, with an approximately central doorway. The 17th-century chamfered doorway has diagonal stops and original chamfered outer frames, flanked by what were formerly two-light mullioned windows on either side. The first-floor openings have been altered or remodeled. To the left of the doorway is a 20th-century door and windows, while the other windows are sashes with glazing bars, which may date from the 19th century or could be 20th-century replicas. There is a 17th-century chamfered opening in the right-hand gable end, as well as two small 17th-century chamfered window openings at the rear, including a mid-floor stair window. The interior has not been inspected.
