Description

The barn located north of Truthall is a granary over a stable and wagon shed, with an adjoining older shippon. It dates from around the mid-19th century but may have origins in the 18th century, possibly built on the site of ancient structures. The barn is constructed from roughly coursed granite rubble with dressed granite quoins, jambstones, sills, and lintels, while the building to the right is made of lime-washed rubble. It features a hipped scantle slate roof over the barn and a grouted scantle slate roof with a gable end over the lower shippon.

The rectangular range likely includes a stable or loose box on the left and a former wagon shed on the right, with the earlier single-storey shippon at the far right. The ground floor of the barn was remodeled, probably as a shippon in the late 19th century, which included the insertion of a window under the first-floor loading door and the reduction of the wide wagon entrance to a narrow doorway. The shippon, which may have been truncated when the barn was built, has a doorway adjoining the barn and a slit window in the middle of the front.

The east front of the barn has a slightly irregular two-window arrangement, with a first-floor loading/winnowing doorway to the left of the center and a shuttered two-light window on either side. The original doorway is located under the left-hand window. The interior has not been inspected. This building occupies most of one side of a courtyard in front of the 15th-century range of Truthall and may be situated on the site of earlier buildings.
