Description
The farm buildings located 8 metres east of Yeate Farmhouse date from around 1800, with a wing on the south remodeled and an additional barn and horse engine house added in the 1830s. These buildings include a barn, shippon, stables, and a cartshed with a hayloft, granary, and threshing floor above. The horse engine house is attached to the north-east corner.
Constructed from rubble stone with a slate roof, the buildings feature lower gable ends on the southern barn and a gable end with a hipped end on the west of the later barn. The earlier barn is rectangular in plan, while the later barn is L-shaped and adjoins to the north, with the horse engine house positioned at an obtuse angle.
The structure is two storeys tall and asymmetrical. The west and south fronts have segmental cut stone arches for the ground floor openings. The west front of the earlier range includes three doors and a window on the ground floor, with a door and window above, and square doveholes arranged in groups of three. The later range's west front features a cartshed and a door, while the south front has two doors on the ground floor and one above.
The horse engine house has a polygonal east end, with some openings partly blocked and several slates missing from the roof. The machinery that was once in the horse engine house is now gone. These buildings are included for their group value with Yeate Farmhouse.
