Description

Mixtow House and Mixtow Cottage comprise a house dating from the 1830s with a parallel wing to the rear representing a cottage from the mid-18th century. The construction is of rubble stone, with the south front whitewashed and slate hung. The house has a hipped roof, with a hipped end to the rear projecting wing and gabled ends to the rear cottage. The building follows an L-shaped plan, with the cottage set at an angle running parallel to the main front.

The south front presents a symmetrical facade of three windows. On the ground floor, two 24-pane sashes without horns flank a glazed central door. The door is surrounded by a doorcase featuring a moulded entablature and flanking pilasters, topped with a fanlight containing intersecting glazing bars. A single-storey verandah, supported by timber posts and featuring a glazed lean-to roof, extends across the front of the house. The first floor has three 24-pane sashes without horns, with crown glass. The cottage is constructed from rubble stone with a slate roof and has timber lintels over the openings. A lateral stack is present on the north rear.
