Description
Weston Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around the 1840s. It is constructed of local stone rubble, with the front elevation stuccoed and incised, while the left side is rendered and painted, and the right and rear elevations are unpainted with brick dressings. The roof is slate, partly coated in bitumen, with hipped ends at both the front and rear, and features brick stacks at the ends and along the axis.
The farmhouse has a triple depth plan that remains complete and intact. It includes a central wide through passage, with a front stair on the left and a back stair leading to the rear. The large principal room is located at the front left, with a pump room, scullery, and complete dairy at the rear, while the dining room is at the front right, with a sitting room and kitchen behind it. A partly glazed screen on the first-floor landing separates the front and back staircases.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front and deep overhanging eaves. It features early 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash windows with crown glass. The front entrance includes a 19th-century four-panel door with a traceried fanlight above, flanked by two sashes, with three additional sashes above. There is also an early 19th-century tripartite sash on the left side elevation. The symmetrical three-window rear elevation has hornless tripartite sashes with brick dressings, overlooking a particularly unspoilt cobbled yard.
Inside, the farmhouse retains its original joinery and carpentry details. The principal room at the front left has a moulded plaster cornice with a floral trail and central rose, while the dining and sitting rooms feature simple moulded cornices. The front stair has turned balusters and a wreathed rail, and the back stair has stick balusters. The pump room is complete with a pump and trough, and the dairy includes slate shelves and salting troughs.
