Description
This listing describes a pair of gate-piers and a garden wall located 1-8 meters to the east of Steppes Lodge. The gate-piers were originally part of the drive to Morval House and date from the 17th century, with possible remodeling in the 19th century. They are constructed from ashlar stone and feature a snecked stone rubble wall with ashlar dressings. The gate-piers are square in section with chamfered corners, pyramid stops at the bottom, and stepped run-out stops at the top, adorned with moulded capitals, curved necks, and large ball finials. The gate-piers are flanked by a snecked stone rubble wall with moulded coping, which includes a lower wall on the left. To the left, there is a narrower entrance for pedestrians between Steppes Lodge and a smaller granite gate-pier, which also has a curved neck and ball finial.
