SX 25 NE MORVAL

4/48 Gate-piers and garden wall 1-8m to - east of Steppes Lodge

GV II

Pair of gate-piers originally to drive of Morval House (qv) with further gate-pier to left and garden wall between and to right. Circa C17 possibly remodelled in C19. Ashlar with snecked stone rubble wall with ashlar dressings. Pair of gate-piers, square in section with chamfered corners, pyramid stops at bottom and stepped run-out stops at top with moulded capitals, curved necks and large ball finials. Flanked by snecked stone rubble wall with moulded coping with lower wall on left. Further narrower entrance for pedestrians to left between Steppes Lodge (qv) and smaller granite gate-pier with curved neck and ball finial.
