Description

The retaining wall, which includes an integral larder and dog-kennel, dates from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed from granite rubble and is located behind Treworval Farmhouse. At the right end of the wall, there is an unchamfered round granite arch doorway leading to a small square chamber below ground, which features niches in the internal walls and a small arched window at the front. This chamber was likely used as a cold store for food or a larder. At the left end of the retaining wall, there is an opening at ground level that leads to a small chamber, which is believed to have served as a dog-kennel. Above this, there is a row of small square niches that may have been used as hen roosts, as they are too small to be bee-boles.
