Description
This building, located 10 metres east of St Winnow Barton, is a possible 15th-century gatehouse range that has been remodeled into farm buildings, including a shippon and stables, with a threshing floor and hayloft at the rear. It likely has 16th-century origins, with stone reused during later rebuilding in the early 19th century. The structure is built of coursed stone with a slate roof and an asbestos slate roof, featuring gable ends on the left and a hipped end on the right, while the rear is constructed of rubblestone.
The west front is asymmetrical and two storeys high. From left to right, it has a window, a door, a large opening that forms a shelter, and a blocked entrance on the east side, followed by another window and a cut stone opening that is partly blocked. Above these, there is a plank door, a double door, and another window, all set under timber lintels. There is a slightly later extension under a lower hipped roof on the right-hand gable end.
At the rear, the building is single storey with a projecting wing to the south, which may have served as a horse engine house, featuring a gabled end and a galvanised roof. Behind this wing, there is a double plank door with a rubble stone ramp and a window to the right. In the centre of the rear, there is a wide four-centred doorway made of chamfered granite, with the base of the jambs below the present ground level, and this doorway is blocked and partly obscured by a 20th-century blockwork addition.
