Description

SX 15 NW ST WINNOW

6/144 Farmbuilding 10 metres east of St Winnow Barton (previously listed 21/8/64 as outbuilding at Manor Farm)

Possible C15 gatehouse range remodelled as farmbuildings comprising shippon and stables with threshing floor and hayloft to rear. Possibly horse engine house to rear. Circa C16 origins with stone reused in later rebuilding circa early C19. Coursed stone with slate roof and asbestos slate roof with gable ends on left and hipped on right. Rubblestone to rear. 2 storey asymmetrical west front. From left to right with window, door, large opening forming shelter and opposing blocked entrance on east side, window and cut stone opening partly blocked. Above window, plank door, double door and window. All under timber lintels. Under lower hipped roof slightly later extension on right-hand gable end. To rear the building is single storey with projecting wing at south, possibly a horse engine house, with gabled end and galvanised roof. Behind this wing a double plank door with rubble stone ramp and window to right. In centre rear a wide 4- centred doorway of chamfered granite, the base of jambs below present ground and the whole blocked and partly obscured by C20 blockwork addition.
