Description

Farmhouse. It likely dates from the late 17th or early 18th century, with alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed of slatestone and granite rubble, partly rendered, with large granite quoins. It has a slate roof, gable ends, and gable end stacks, along with a ridge stack. Originally, it appears to have been a two-room plan house, with a third room added to the right end in the 19th century. At that time, the roof was raised over the right end room and that end was rendered. The rooms to the left and right of the passage are heated by gable end stacks; the stack to the right is now on the ridge, and there’s an additional gable end stack serving the 19th-century addition. The room to the right of the passage was the kitchen, while the room to the left was originally a parlour. There is potential for an unheated central room to the left of the passage, as the left-hand room is considerably larger than the one to the right of the passage.

The farmhouse is two storeys high. The front has a 20th-century porch containing a half-glazed door, and a small 19th-century two-light casement window above. The room to the right has a four-pane two-light casement window with a timber lintel at ground floor, with a similar small two-light casement under the eaves. The end bay to the right is rendered, with 20th-century windows at both ground and first floor levels. The left end has no windows, and the stack is capped with brick. The right gable end has 20th-century windows at both ground and first floor levels.

At the rear is a single-storey lean-to constructed of granite rubble, extending behind the passage and the upper end room. This lean-to has a door with chamfered granite jambs and lintel on its left side. The rear of the lower end room has a 19th-century two-light casement window at ground floor; one light has glazing bars, while the other has plate glass. Above this is another two-light casement with three panes per light.

The interior has not been fully inspected, but the kitchen (room to the right of the passage) features a fireplace with a wide chamfered timber lintel and an oven to the rear left.
