Description

Bellscat Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1840, with some later alterations and additions from the 20th century. The structure is made of stone rubble and has a stuccoed finish. It features a slate roof with gable ends at both the front and rear, and there are stuccoed chimneys at the front right and left, as well as at the rear service rooms.

The farmhouse has a double depth plan, consisting of two principal rooms at the garden front. There are porches on both the right and left sides, which provide access to a hall or passage on the left. The stairwell is located at the rear left of the passage, separating the front rooms from smaller service rooms at the back. The garden front is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window layout, with rusticated quoins and a pediment featuring an oeil de boeuf.

On the ground floor, there are three original 24-pane sash windows set in raised moulded architraves. The first floor has a cill band and three 16-pane sash windows in similar architraves. The right side of the house includes a central embattled porch with pilasters, and to the left, there is a glazed 20th-century porch entrance. The ground floor on the right has a 20th-century window, while the first floor center has a former sash window in a raised moulded architrave, which has been replaced with a 20th-century two-light window. There is a gable end stack at the rear right service room.

The left side mirrors the right with a central embattled porch and an 8-pane light at the front. There are also 20th-century glazed single-storey additions on both the right and left. A central 16-pane sash window in a raised moulded architrave is present on the first floor. Both sides feature a continued first-floor cill band and rusticated quoins.

At the rear, there is a single-storey 20th-century addition in the center with a half-glazed door and casements. To the right, there are 4-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors, while the ground floor left has a 4-pane sash, and the first floor center has another 4-pane sash. The roof over the front range has a pedimental feature at the rear, which is slate-hung and includes an oeil de boeuf.

The interior has been significantly remodeled in the 20th century, with the original stair and fireplaces having been removed.
