Description
The Almshouse is a building likely dating from the 18th century, situated above three pighouses. It features a stone rubble base and is hung with rag slates above the ground floor. The roof is made of rag slate, with a hipped end on the left and a half hipped end on the right. There is a stone rubble lateral stack at the rear, topped with a moulded cap.
The building has a plan that includes three pighouses on the ground floor and a one-room plan almshouse on the first floor. The ground rises towards the rear, and access to the almshouse is through a door in the rear wall. A small outshut is located at the right end.
The exterior has two storeys, with a pair of doors leading to the two pighouses on the left and another door to the right. The first floor jetties out over the ground floor and is also hung with rag slates. A 19th-century sash window with margin glazing bars is present on the first floor.
The interior has not been inspected. Information about the almshouse and pighouses has been provided by the owners of nearby properties, whose deeds refer to the ownership of the pighouses and the maintenance of the almshouse above.
