Description

Glubhole Farmhouse and attached barn are likely late 18th or early 19th century. The farmhouse is constructed of stone rubble, with a rendered front and slate hanging above the ground floor. Parts of the rear are also slate hung. The roof is of rag slate, with hipped ends and a gable end to the attached barn. Rendered end stacks are present, along with a side lateral stack to the rear right. The building has an overall ‘T’ shaped plan. The front range features a two-room and cross passage plan, with an entrance to the left of centre; the larger room is on the right and the smaller to the left, both heated by end stacks. A single-room wing is set slightly off-centre to the rear and is heated by a side lateral stack. 19th-century outshuts have been added in the angles created by the front range and rear wing. Around the early 19th century, a barn was added to the rear of the rear wing; this barn is rectangular with shippons on the ground floor and a loft above. The front of the farmhouse has an asymmetrical four-window facade, with a 20th-century gabled porch and a 19th-century inner door to the left of centre. There are 24-pane sash windows to the ground floor on the left, and two 16-pane sashes to the right of the entrance. Four 16-pane sashes are on the first floor. The barn to the rear has a wide opening on the ground floor with a dressed arch flanked by two doors. A wide threshing door is above, with a 20-pane sash window to the right. The interior retains complete late 18th or early 19th century fixtures and fittings, including a late 18th or early 19th century dog-leg staircase with a ramped moulded rail.
