Description
Blythes Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a rear elevation covered with corrugated asbestos. The roof is slate with gable ends and features brick end stacks. The original plan of the house is uncertain, but it has a two-room layout with a cross passage, and both rooms are heated by end stacks. There is a straight joint to the right of center, indicating that the house has been partly rebuilt or extended. On the left side, there is a small extension that is either 18th century or early 19th century, designed as a one-room plan.
The exterior of the house is built down a slope, with the ground rising to the right. It has two storeys and an almost symmetrical front with four windows. The entrance features a 20th-century door with an asbestos slate hood. There are two 19th-century two-light casements on either side of the door, with dressed stone arches above the openings. The first floor has three 19th-century two-light casements and a one-light casement to the left of center. The two-storey extension on the left is either from the 18th or 19th century. The interior has not been inspected.
