Description
Chyenhal Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1772, with extensions made in the 19th century. The front is made of granite ashlar, while the rest of the building features granite moorstone rubble with granite dressings. It has a fairly steep scantle slate roof that sweeps lower over a later outshut at the rear, and brick chimneys are located over the gable ends.
The original layout consisted of a two-room plan, with a slightly larger kitchen living room on the left and a parlour on the right, separated by a cross passage or lobby. In the 19th century, service rooms were added in a rear outshut, and the staircase is situated between these rooms. There is also a 19th-century earth closet adjoining the rear right-hand corner.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical three-window south-east front, with a doorway and a window slightly to the right of the middle. A small 20th-century porch with a gable-ended slate roof and glazed doors has been added. The windows are mid-20th-century horned six-pane sashes. Inside, the simple interior includes beamed ceilings and some original two-panel doors. The roof structure, which is old and possibly original, has not been inspected.
