Description

Burshill Cottage, Mandalay, and Easterly Cottage are three cottages dating from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. Burshill Cottage and Mandalay are constructed from whitewashed stone, while Easterly Cottage is made of plastered whitewashed cob. All three cottages have corrugated iron roofs, which were previously thatched, and feature gabled ends. There are brick chimneys, including one at the left gable end, another on the ridge, and a large projecting stack with offsets and a rendered brick shaft at the right gable end. The cottages have a single depth plan and a late 20th-century rear addition to Easterly Cottage. They are two storeys high with a long, asymmetrical range of four windows. The front doors to Burshill Cottage and Mandalay are modern and located under a corrugated iron pent roof, while Easterly Cottage has a similar modern door on the front at the right. The windows throughout are early 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars, spaced irregularly. The interiors feature sawn ceiling beams, and although the roof space was inaccessible during the 1984 survey, it is said to have pegged trusses. There is also a single-storey outbuilding adjoining at the left end. These cottages were formerly part of Burshill Manor.
