Description

Broomhill Manor is a house built in the mid to late 19th century, with rear additions made in 1901. The structure is made of stone rubble, featuring some dressed stone on the right end, and has a hipped slate roof. The chimney on the ridge is made of local brick and was repaired in the 19th or 20th century, while there are also brick chimneys on the right return of the wing. The house has a double depth plan with a rear extension and a wing that projects from the front at the right, forming an L-shape with a hipped roof. It is two storeys tall and has a front with three plus one windows, which have likely been refenestrated.

The entrance is off-centre and features a 20th-century front door beneath a Doric porch supported by unfluted stone columns on plinths. There is a further blocked entrance on the left side of the front. On the ground floor, the left window is a 16-pane sash with brick jambs and an arch, while the right window is also a 16-pane sash under a brick arch. A French window in the wing has been inserted into a larger blocked opening under a stone arch. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows on both the left and right, each with brick arches and jambs. Above the porch, there is a canted bay window with a moulded timber cornice that breaks the eavesline, featuring a central 16-pane sash and 8 panes on each return of the bay. The left return of the wing has two 16-pane sashes. The gable at the rear displays the date 1901 and the initials GB.

Inside, the entrance leads into a hall that features wainscoting made of 16th-century linenfold panelling, a moulded plaster cornice, and a plaster ceiling rose. The fireplace has a carved 17th-century timber lintel with armorial bearings, and there are six-panel doors throughout. Broomhill Manor is located on the site of a former manor house, and the 16th-century panelling is believed to have originated from another location.
