Description
The stocks located in the churchyard about 3 metres north of the north transept of the Church of St Carantoc are likely from the 17th century. They are set beneath a 20th-century gabled roof supported by granite piers. The wooden stocks are positioned in front of a carved wooden board that features a low relief carving of William Tinney, created around 1817. This carving includes a description of how he was the last person to be placed in the stocks and details of his escape. This story was recorded in 1886 by a witness named Richard Chegwidden.
