Description
The Old Forge is a building that has been converted into a workshop. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and has undergone few alterations since its construction. The structure is made of slatestone rubble and features a bitumenised slate roof with gable ends. It has an axial stack with a brick chimney.
The layout consists of a two-room plan, with the forge located on the left side, heated by the axial stack, and a room on the right that has a cart entrance at the front. Attached to the front left is a shoeing room, which has doors on both sides and a rear door leading into the forge.
The exterior is single-storey. The main range includes double doors for cart entry on the right and a two-light window at the right gable end. The shoeing room has a plank door on the inner side and a half-glazed door on the outer side, along with a two-light, twelve-pane window at the front gable end. There is a tie-ring on the inner side. The left end of the main range features a two-light, eight-pane window. The forge is built into the bank at the rear, with a twelve-pane light to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
