Warehouses Parallel To Rear Of Nos 75-81 Lemon Street

These are warehouses located parallel to the rear of Nos. 75-81 Lemon Street in Truro, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. They feature walls made of killas rubble, brick arches, and some timber lintels made from reused ships' timbers. The roofs are covered with corrugated asbestos, and there is a brick chimney on the left-hand gable end.

The warehouses are two adjoining rectangular structures positioned end-to-end. The left warehouse is two stories tall with a four-window range, while the right warehouse is two stories plus an attic with a five-window range, dating from the 18th century. The front of the left warehouse has a doorway with an old panelled door towards the right, while the other openings have 20th-century windows or are boarded up. The heightened first floor is rendered, and the windows are old 12-pane casements.

The other front has ground floor openings that are mostly boarded over, except for a 20th-century window on the left. The first-floor windows are old 8-pane two-light casements. There is a loading doorway with a hoist above the left-hand window, and the second floor is otherwise blind. The interior has not been inspected.

These warehouses are shown on a plan from around 1815 and are situated near what was once the navigable extent of the River Kenwyn, later known as Lemon Quay. They are included for their group value with the Lemon Street development and for their historical significance in illustrating the commercial activity of late Georgian Truro.
